Reason for training:

Approximately 18,000 people are murdered each year and about 30,000 commit suicide.

Numerous natural deaths as well as accidental deaths also occur.

This course will assist law enforcement agencies by providing sound investigative procedures and recommendations to ensure a thorough death investigation is conducted and properly classified.

This course is intended for the first responding officer, newly assigned death investigator and crime scene technicians.

The goal of this course is to properly prepare the investigator to manage a death investigation from initial notification to courtroom presentation.

This course will provide the death investigator with a solid foundation in the following areas:

  • Case management
  • First responder duties and responsibilities
  • Crime scene processing considerations
  • Crime scene reconstruction
  • Death notification procedures
  • Firearm, sharp force, blunt force and asphyxiation related murders
  • The investigation of natural deaths, suicide and murders (the murder segment will be broken down into the motives and indicators often seen in altercation, robbery, contract, lust/sexual, poisoning and serial murders).
  • Knowledge of scene specialist such as forensic entomology, odontology, anthropology and blood-spatter.
  • Buried body recovery
  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy
  • Polygraph strategies
