Description
This course is designed for local law enforcement officers who are or soon will be assigned to supervise criminal investigation units.
It’s primary focus is on providing the basic skills necessary to effectively manage criminal investigations and investigators.
The participants will be able to:
- Analyze current crime trends in their locality.
- Initiate, organize, and manage information and investigators.
- Perform criminal case analysis from offense reports.
- Identify solvability factors from available case information.
- Plan and conduct proactive investigative procedures.
- Select and supervise investigators.
- Develop a basic investigator training program.
- Establish and maintain an informant program.
- Implement fiscal accountability procedures for handling confidential funds.
- Supervise the handling of informants.
- Plan and implement a media relations program.
- Establish a network of information sharing between local, state, and federal agencies.
- Effectively supervise the investigation at a major crime scene.
