This course is specifically designed for newly assigned investigators or patrol officers responsible for their investigative follow-up efforts. Understanding time proven concepts of criminal investigations and having a full understanding of human nature and it’s interaction with the crimes people commit is the investigators most valuable asset. In today’s Law Enforcement environment, many times these tools are not presented early on in the investigative career and give the working investigator a disadvantage that takes years to overcome through real life experience.

Presented in a real application approach, this class will become a basis for future investigative efforts and provide a solid working knowledge of criminals, their motives and crimes, and all of the forces that affect them and their actions. This information is supplemented with elements to consider from outside forces that may interact throughout the course of an investigation.

Instructional objectives include, but are not limited to, information gathering, documentation, objective evaluation of the facts and formulating investigative direction. These interactive with crime scene interpretation and knowledge of the capabilities of physical evidence and how it can prove or disprove circumstance will give the new investigator the advantage they need to successful.
