Basic Investigator/New Detective – 40 hours

Criminal investigations in today’s law enforcement environment have taken on new directions because of the many outside forces that interact with police work.

This course has been developed to equip the newly assigned investigator, both local, state and Federal, with the skills needed to be successful in their mission.

Instruction will cover the entire scope of a criminal investigation originating from either the police offense report, the discovery of a crime scene or conducting a victimless crime investigation.

Standard investigative procedure for initial background information gathering is the start of any investigation.

These investigative procedures will be carried through to the level that will provide the new investigator to initiate a homicide investigation.

The instructional presentation will equip the new investigator with an ability to be successful in whatever challenges they are presented with.

This course is supplemented with real life case examples from both past and present high profile police investigations.

Students will interact in a group setting by applying their classroom experience to actual investigative case studies.

At the completion of the course, the participants will have been exposed to every level of a criminal investigation, from the preliminary stages to court room presentation.
