Description

* SWORN PERSONNEL ONLY *

This intensive 16-hour course is designed for the comprehensive investigation of police officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths and deaths following the use of less-lethal force.

There are no circumstances occurring to police officers and departments that are more scrutinized by media, criminal and civil courts and administrative venues than their use of force. Criminal verdicts, civil litigation judgments, administrative integrity, the morale of the department and the reputation of the agency hang in the balance with these events. With Internet access and 24-hour cable news, few other singular events can occur to a department of any size that will remain under the microscope for years. And, the departments relationship to the community it serves can be forever changed by these events.

This course deals with shootings and use of deadly force, deaths occurring subsequent to the use of less-lethal force and in-custody deaths. Because these cases involve the entire department, this course integrates police at every level, including; initial response and critical incident management, media relations, police executive and City Administrative briefings, Standard Operating Procedures, courtroom and hearing testimony, PIO education, and the psychological aftermath to those involved, the department and their community.

This course has both basic and advanced skills that will equip the police department, from the first responder to the Chief’s Office, to comprehensively manage and guide one of the most critical incidents it will encounter.

Primary and assisting investigators and supervisors will all benefit from this training. Police departments are encouraged to send their homicide investigators and operational supervisors, tactical personnel and commanders to this course.

This course is open to sworn personnel only – official department identification is required.
